Unveiling Ekahamsa Foundation: Transforming Lives and Communities
Ekahamsa means ‘inhabited by a solitary or unique swan…. My swan was Rimjhim (28-06-2012 to 17-01-2017) … a pure soul… pure bcz she dnt knew the world… she just gave it to the world in her unique way.
The reason behind ekahamsa foundation is RIMJIM my daughter born on 28th JUNE, 2012 with condition of epilepsy. And her kind of epilepsy as per doctors were very rare once in 3000 kids… and with that I entered the world of treatments, medicines, therapies and counselling sessions where I found 1000’s of kids with same or worst conditions like her. Gone through all including epilepsy surgery still couldn’t able to save her from destiny and on 17th January 2017 I lost her….
Professionally I was doing quiet well in my career… my thought process for life was that there is no work which is impossible for me until I want to give it up…. But few things are destined to be as they are… in spite of every efforts all therapies we couldn’t save her …. but those 4 and half years when I had her changed my life 360 degree… my visits to every hospital, therapy centers, diet experts, counsellor made me realized that there is so much that can be done in terms of medicines and awareness. As a part of her therapy to make her place in society I also started going to various blind rehabs centers, leprosy rehabs.. malls and movie theaters also but her acceptance there was quite a challenge.
In research of finding the reason of one question in particular .. that’s still in my head is y … y it happened to my child. Found many answers but not a satisfactory one as reasons were… no proper medicine and food at the time of pregnancy, malnutrition in mothers, family history, injury on head, deformation of any organ, blood clotting during pregnancy, wrong medicine or any disease in particular at the time of pregnancy…but nothing was in my case. I wanted to know it all… but I realized that no matter how educated you are few questions will always be unanswered by the researchers also… I remember asking a question from a scientist who was doing a research and experiment on treatment of neurological issue through bone marrow transplant .. that I want to know more about epilepsy and she asked what TYPE… and only one answer came from my mouth.. THAT THE KIND OF ONE MY DAUGHTER HAS… (so much from a commerce background mother but believe me I did my research well in those 4 and half years)
After losing her I didnt had anything else to do as all my research and my day to day busy schedule was all empty and I had nothing to do but had enough to think about all these question poping up in head still and I started finding reasons to y. meanwhile I decided to go for adoption process for a girl child which made me visit adoption centers where I met few kids who were left out from adoption process as they were special so I started spending my time with them and then again those thought started coming to mind what all things we can do.
If I will start sharing the stories of the kids I met across in these 5 years my list would be never ending. Kids with special conditions were given to adoption centers by their own parents bcz they do not want to carry the responsibilities. Parents who are just waiting for kids to die bcz they have given up on them. And I started sharing the stories of these kids in my day to day life with people I was meeting everyday .. my family, my professional friends, doctors I came across during the treatment of Rimjhim. Everyone had a point to add on while listening to me but no one was contributing and channelizing the thought of doing something when I decided that I would start ekahamsa foundation as one mode for anyone and everyone to contribute by any means … of thought, their efforts, counselling… creating and volunteering for the events.

Pooja Sharma born and brought up in delhi only did her schooling at govt girls senior secondary school, mehrauli, graduating from delhi university in 2001. worked for various corporates like Godrej appliances, citi financial for almost 5 years and then got married in 2004 after a long gap started her own play school from her house by the name of glider play school 2017 from her house.
When Ekahamsa Foundation was formed Pooja decided to run the school under the foundation being a founding member as a maximum number of the students in play school were under privileged. Kids of Labour class, household maids and started the day care facilities and tuition center for such kids. In Ekahamsa foundation we provide free education and books to such kids. We facilitate kids with special needs with free counselling sessions to the parents.
In fact the teachers of the schools are also females in need get paid by ekahamsa foundation. Ekahamsa foundation hence being involved in education counselling also gives opportunities to the females who want to restart their career , work from home for females, and gives opportunities to learn and earn.
